SAMS Cares is the philanthropic and community service arm of SAMS. SAMS Cares supports local community and national initiatives to improve the quality of life for others through charitable contributions, social awareness and employee volunteerism. SAMS Cares organizes and participates in initiatives around the United States, working closely with non-profit and charitable partners including Easterseals, AARP, Wreaths Across America, Capital Area Food Bank and Lorton Community Action Center, among others.
On September 11th, the SAMS team participated in the AARP Foundation meal pack challenge. A philanthropic initiative to feed the elderly in the DMV area and around the country. An event full of dancing, hard work and a sense of community packed into a huge tent in the heart of D.C.
In May 2018, our team proudly sponsored the Easterseals DC MD VA 2018 Advocacy Awards celebrating a Personal Call to Serve. General Mark and Mrs. Hollyanne Milley, and the Cohen Veterans Network were the recipients of this year’s awards. We salute them for their tireless dedication to serve and advocate for individuals with disabilities or special needs, including wounded warriors, military, veterans and their families.
Team members throughout the National Capitol region participated in the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce’s annual Children’s Book Drive. We provided more than 100 books to share with local public and elementary school libraries ensuring that children in our community will build literacy and skills for success.
For the second year, our SAMS Cares team (joined by the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce) honored our brave service members by participating in Wreaths Across America at the Arlington National Cemetery. Team members commemorated the veterans’ lives by placing a wreath on each grave.
Our SAMS West team volunteered with “Christmas with a Cop,” an annual event sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 28, in Sierra Vista, AZ. The event paired 143 underprivileged children up with a Law Enforcement Officer and allotted each child $100 to spend on presents at Target. The team assisted with event setup, coordination, check-in, photographed children with Santa, and helped kids track their spending limit balance.
In order to provide nourishment to needy families in their community, our NUWC team in Newport, Rhode Island held a food drive for their local food pantry and soup kitchen. The plethora of food they collected will help to fight hunger in their neighborhood.
SAMS’ Night of Giving on November 14 raised funds and awareness for Easter Seals, a nonprofit that provides services to adults, veterans, and children in our community. SAMS collected an abundance of art supplies for the children at Easter Seals, in addition to thousands of dollars.
Those in our community in desperate need of nutritious food will be given the supplies they need thanks to the support our SAMS Cares team provided to Ecumenical Community Helping Others (ECHO). Volunteers helped sort food for one of their larger annual food drives.
A member of our SAMS Cares team stepped in to volunteer time at the Artillery Company of Newport, RI, assisting NAVSTA commanders with set up for the Naval Leadership and Ethics Center (NLEC). By using specified Volunteer Time Off hours, our team member was able to strongly support the community.
A group from SAMS pitched in to help sort and pack food and urgently needed supplies to send to those who were displaced by Hurricane Harvey in Houston, TX. The packed items will be shipped to meet the immediate needs of our neighbors in Houston.
A group from our SAMS Cares team helped volunteer for the third year in a row with this annual event. Volunteers loaded school supplies into trucks to later be distributed to underprivileged children in the local community who would otherwise be without the proper tools they need to succeed.
Team members helped support the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) at their annual VIP Golf Tournament. The event raised money for the VIP program, which provides training for Veteran Owned Small Businesses on winning government contracts.
SAMS employees gave up their Saturday to volunteer at a local food bank to help sort and organize food to ensure that local community members in need would receive the necessary nourishment.
Our SAMS Cares team helped honor service members who made the ultimate sacrifice and local veterans by participating in the Wreath Laying Ceremony, an annual event hosted by the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce’s Veteran Committee, in honor of Memorial Day.
Our SAMS West team in Ft. Huachuca, Arizona volunteered with the Sierra Vista Police Officers Association’s (SVPOA) Charity Golf Tournament. The annual charity event raises money for programs like the Special Olympics and Christmas with a Cop.
The SAMS team came together to hold a Night of Giving for beneficiary, Easter Seals. Together we were able to raise thousands of dollars through monetary giving and donated art supplies. We’re so thankful for a successful evening
Our team was able to fill up an entire box full of winter clothing and blankets for children in need for the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce’s Winter Outerwear Campaign. The collected items were distributed by ECHO and Koinonia.
SAMS team members volunteered with the Capital Area Food Bank to help with setup, tear down, and during the event for the Family Hunger Action Day food drive.
SAMS joined in with the hundreds gathered for the Springfield Bridge Walk across the Veteran’s Bridge to the American Legion Plaza. The annual community celebration included a signing of the Army Community Covenant to honor local military members.
Our team braved the ice and snow to help make a difference by volunteering with the setup and cleanup of the Wreaths Across America campaign at the Arlington National Cemetery.
